Chan is my last name - not the Japanese name suffix. In Chinese it is as follows: 陳麗懿. In Japanese, I prefer using the hiragana alphabet to write my name - かいり.
I am a double major
University student, in Law and
in mid-transfer from Engineering to Language/Arts Arts (French major) with a Diploma of Lanugages in Japanese on the side. I love languages and it's the only thing I think I'm even
half-good at. I would love to take up German! Being a university student, I try to study a lot. But I end up having a lot of "free" time instead, in which I enjoy listening to music, playing piano, writing lyrics + music, reading, drawing, making little things, watching anime, reading manga.
Fashion is beautiful. I love watching it start something new, move along, then go all the way back to the beginning where it started. From vintage chic styles of European streets to the colourful, not-so-conventional styles of Japan, like
Lolita,
Mori,
Otome and
Dolly. Splashing out on expensive Lolita dresses and then scouring vintage boutiques for cheap goodies is the perfect balance. I love Lolita fashion very much and my favourite brand is Innocent World, but for some unknown reason, my
closet is full of Angelic Pretty! I also highly doubt whether a
wishlist can ever truly be completed ...
Yes! I am a pianist. Although I have tried to play guitar, but I'm just no good at it at all, so I am sticking to the piano. I love Classical and Romantic music;
Chopin and Mozart are my favourite composers. As for popular
music, I listen to a small variety of music from all over the world, from Asian to European. I'm a particular fan of
Eurovision over the past few years!
I love
books. My favourite author is
Diana Wynne Jones and I love the classic French children's books, Le Petit Prince and Le Petit Nicolas series! I love reading classic children's books in general, like Alice in Wonderland, The Magic Faraway Tree, Oliver Twist, Winnie-the-Pooh and so on. Besides classics, I love fantasy books and books set during the 1800s - I wish I could have lived during this era! It is difficult to choose, but my two favourite classic books are "
Le Petit Prince" by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry and "
Peter Pan" by J.M. Barrie. I want to never grow up and to enjoy being young forever, after all, adults, "
Les grandes personnes ne comprennent jamais rien toutes seules, et c'est fatigant, pour les enfants, de toujours et toujours leur donner des explications."
I enjoy reading
manga and watching
anime, especially
Studio Ghibli films. My all time favourite is Spirited Away. Lately, I haven't been watching many serial anime so I'm hoping to catch up. Some anime I am watching now: Axis Powers HETALIA, Katekyoshi Hitman REBORN, One Piece and Fullmetal Alchemist.
Cute things are lovely! Especially Hello Kitty and
Sanrio. I have been collecting Hello Kitty since I was only a wee toddler. I love Rilakuma and San-X characters. I am a fan of
Disney, particularly the old, classic animated movies, but I also love all the new Pixar movies too!
Dolls, toys and figurines are such a wonderful collector items! Sylvian Families are gorgeous and I only wish the new ones were made like the ones from my childhood. Pullip and Dal dolls are super cute! I like pretty porcelain figurines too! They're so delicate and beautiful.
Some random things I like -
mushrooms! Lace, crochet & embroidery.
Airplanes/Aeroplanes - my dream is to own one and fly one when I can afford it. I've wanted to be a pilot since I was little. An unusual dream for a little girl, but flying is something impossible that human beings have conquered. Not perfectly. Yet. But I have faith in technology. I love trains too. Old steam engines are the best! Oh! And buses too! I cannot wait until the day I step onto a London Double Decker!
Bookshelves - I had a difficult time picking one for my room. I like wallpaper. I wish I could have wallpaper rooms again! I like
china and
porcelain, too! My mother gave me an incomplete set of Daisy teacups and saucers from France and an incomplete set of cream teacups and saucers also from France, to start my collecting. I've been eyeing a Willow patterned dinner set from England that my mother has hidden in the kitchen. I like collecting china and cute cutlery.
